Government talks up brown coal jobs, says green jobs to be scrapped

Some major Australian utilities have warned a decision to scrap coal-fired power stations will cost them billions of dollars.
In its most damning assessment yet of coal-fired power generation, Clean Energy Australia says a loss of almost 100,000 jobs is a cost to the economy골목 if Australia goes the way of the US and Eur마이다스 카지노ope where green energy is the dominant source of energy.
«The economics of a global coal shortage in this climate is not just highly unlikely, it is almost certainly going to result in millions of lost jobs in the coal industry in Australia and around the world as well,» the report said.
«As much as 100,000 jobs are in all these industries but that does not include coal mining, which is one of the industries where employment has fallen by 50 per cent in the past 10 years.»
The report comes as Labor has promised to scrap coal in its entire energy policy.
Opposition Leader Bill Shorten says he is «convinced» the Greens and other renewable energy and energy efficiency groups are exaggerating the impacts of climate change by promoting the view that coal is a «silver bullet» that can save millions of jobs.
«I think we need to recognise there is a lot more we can do.
«We’ve got to change our policy on this and find the way to use less carbon, that’s right,» he said.
The report says the benefits of renewables could be a huge c건마ash cow but the risks of climate change are «very great and real».
«The costs of a very bad global climate crisis are enormous,» it said.
«The climate crisis is a worldwide problem and it’s coming home to roost in Australia, as we see now in Queensland and western Victoria.»
