In th로투스 홀짝e early morning hours of Wednesday, August 14, 2013, a large fire broke out at the home of two elderly women in an apartment complex. A helicopter and several firefighters responded to the scene in response to the heat and smoke.
In the middle of the night, with water and smoke rising from the roof, the three firefighters in the helicopter jumped in and immediately began to battle a massive fire in the living room area of the complex.
One of the two firefighters, a 62-year-old man, was able to get his oxygen system up and working again in just 15 minutes, leaving him with life-threatening burns on his back and right hand, with his own gas tank running dry in two hours. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time but some investigators believe it was a power cut.
«It started on a hot summer night. It was fairly low on smoke when we arrived, but by nightfall fire started all over the house. As the water temperature got higher, the hot and dry conditions made it impossible to put out,» said Mesa Fire Capt. Brian Hebert.
Fire investigators are investigating to try to determine what caused the fire and who was responsible. Investigators said they believe one man began the fire and another person worked late in the evening and at some point the fire started with heat.
