Report highlights need for hospital emergency cover – and hospital insurance costs – with caregiving responsibilities ‘inadequate’

The U.S. health care industry, which is dominated by hospitals, has no effective plan for covering health care costs when they arise – but has only limited options for preventing such crises.

The card would allow health care professionals to immediately respond, even in an emergency.

A standard 24-hour telephone system to contact the hospital emergency department, which could include text messaging, email, telephone calls, a web page and phone calls.

A patient registry to keep track of all patients at each hospital. No more patients entering their names to the hospital on the emergency patient card. Such a registry also would increase the patient’s chances of getting the care they need.

More thorough training at all hospitals to ensure that staff have knowledge of emergency medicine, and that the hospital emergency departmen
